What I Liked:
This book is really targetted towards someone trying to write an e-book but if you removed the word e-book and inserted any other goal you have like exercise, finding true love, weight loss, etc. this book would be relevant. Their definition of self sabotage is "self sabotage is a state of mind and state of being which damages our belief in ourselves and our abilities to achieve that which we want to achieve. It is extremely common and it affects everyone in some way, shape or form. If you have not achieved everything that you want to achieve, it is likely that some type of self-sabotage is responsible."
I found that this book answered a lot of my own questions as to why I have a hard time finishing some projects I start, why I tend to procrastinate in certain areas, and why I can get easily distracted from certain tasks.
It gives some good advice on how to break through self-sabotage with simple steps and strategies. They’re easy to do but old habits die hard and you need to be committed to do them. It also makes you realize it’s not that you're lazy or lack motivation, it’s that you're dealing with limiting thoughts, fear and/or past experiences. Once, you become aware of why you behave in certain ways then taking action becomes so much easier.
Fear is such a big factor in stopping us from trying new things or going after our dreams. A lot of times we don't even admit to ourselves that it is our own fears that are stopping us. We'll say, "I don't have the time" or "I don't have the money" or "I don't have the ability". Something. When really, it's just that we're afraid so we self-sabotage ourselves. Understanding that goes a long way in being able to finally move forward to achieving those goals you truly desire.
What I Didn’t Like:
I don’t really have anything negative to say. It’s 145 pages and it took a while for my poor, old printer to print out all the pages but that’s about it. It’s a thorough and well-researched book and it’s easy to read.
Absolutely. Even if you’re not trying to write an e-book, if you find that you start projects or goals and never seem to finish them, then you’ll find this book interesting.
