Bangladesh

Men and women, in towns and cities, keep passing by
New stars appear on the horizon, new nations take birth, and new banners fly.
Time was when, Bangla Desh, was just a figure of speech
It was no place to come from, and no place to reach.
Bangla Desh existed, in the dreams of men
In the sighs of women only,it had an existence then.
It was a colony of Pakistan, with its men under cruelty groaning.
With its women and young girl, under torture and dishonor moaning.
But Bangla Desh is there now, for all the world to see
With its rivers flowing full, and its people free.

As your next question is,"What does it mean to you?" My answer to this is that even though people got independence in Bangla Desh, before that, Pakistan and India to with some other countries too, what does it mean to be independent? It means to feel that one is free, there's no one to torture you, you can start what you like, be not under slavery any longer, but take for example the news you must have read on 16-12-2012, how the girl was dishonored by men that it took her just 13 days when she breathed her last, when under doctors treatment in Singapore, not only in this case but countless other cases before that, could be centuries if not more than that. Why don't men understand that just to get a sexual feeling for some seconds, they make the female ashamed of herself, criticism by others on her which should have been on the man/men. Do men feel that they have a right to do so because in society they are higher in position as since, may be two centuries gone by that there was a woman, the first to be educated in the world, followed by others and now the world over. I feel that as man has not, instead God has made both, both should be considered equal.

It has inspired me because my father was a writer when he wrote a book,:Blood Bath In Bangla Desh" for a friend of his. As I was in college those days and having some poetic sense, had composed some poems before this too which had got published in my college in New Delhi, India
